About Bangor Historical Society

Bangor Historical Society was founded in November 1976 by the late Karl Smyth to encourage the study of and to promote public interest in local history. We met for many years in the sumptuous splendour of the Seacourt Teachers Centre in Bangor, Co Down.

The Society relocated to the Good Templar Hall in 1989 where the Society's Patron, The Marchioness of Dufferin and Ava, presented the opening address.

Over the years, the Society has published several journals, postcards, photographic calendars and brief historical details of 'Old Bangor'.
